What a small batch means here

Batch sizes, pressing dates and why some products sell out.

We make every product in batches of 400 units or fewer, in a rented workshop with one mixing vessel. The batch number and the date it was made are printed on the base of every bottle.

Small batches mean fresher oils and fewer preservatives in the products that have no water. They also mean things sell out. When a product is gone, its page says so and the next batch date goes in the description.

The night oil

Rosehip oil oxidises faster than most oils. We buy it in small drums, use it within six weeks of pressing and make the Lavender Night Oil in batches of 200. That is why it is the product most often sold out.

Patch testing

Every batch is tested for stability and preservative strength by an outside lab before it goes on sale. Nothing replaces a patch test on your own skin, though: a little on the inside of your arm, morning and evening, for three days.
